The number of games with the highest ratings is extremely low, as these matches only comprise the top 1%. This leads to wider confidence intervals and a lot of unusual data, particularly in the case of civilization versus civilization matchups which often only have one or two games.
Of the 1.3 million matches available as of April 1, 2023, for each leaderboard matches were divided into five groups: four even quartiles, and a fifth designated as the "pro" group. The divisions were based on the average match rating: 0-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, 75-100%, and 99-100%.
The rating brackets were formed using the lowest and highest rating in each group. This results in each bracket, aside from the "pro" group, having approximately the same number of matches.
These brackets may be adjusted over time.

Ok! 😄 I've dumped all the data into parquet files you can download, read more about it here.
